As part of National Infant Immunization Week, Immunize El Paso will administer free immunizations for children up to 12 months for the week of April 24th-30th.

National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) is a yearly observance highlighting the importance of protecting children two years and younger from vaccine-preventable diseases (VPDs). This year, in particular, it’s critical to ensure that families stay on track for children’s routine checkups and recommended vaccinations following disruptions from COVID-19

On Monday El Paso County Commissioners designated “Infant Immunization Awareness Week in the County of El Paso” to be promoted by Immunize El Paso.

“Immunize El Paso staff takes pride in playing the important role of protecting children against vaccine-preventable disease. We invite parents to take advantage of the free vaccines offered April 24th through the 30th.” -Immunize El Paso Director Danny Acosta

Infants receive up to 24 vaccines per year to guard against diseases such as Polio, Hepatitis B, Tetanus, Measles, Mumps and Rubella. Last year Immunize El Paso immunized more than 20,000 children up to 18 years old.

A CDC report released in May 2020 found a troubling drop in routine childhood vaccination as a result of families staying at home. CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend that children stay on track with their well-child appointments and routine vaccinations. On-time vaccination is critical to provide protection against potentially life-threatening diseases.
